On Wednesday, November 1st the Latino Faculty Staff & Administrators Association (LFSAA) alongside San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) hosted the community of the Inland Empire to participate in the 17th annual Dia de los Muertos Celebration.

The Dia de los Muertos Celebration included lots of traditional activities such as an altar contest, dance performances, food, face painting, mini car show, music, opportunity drawings and vendors.

There were also many clubs and programs of the campus in attendance such as the Xochipilli Sacred Ethnobotany Club, the Mind and Matter Psychology Club, the STEM-MESA Center, the Dreamers Resource Center and much more.

Alessia, a student studying Criminal Justice, said that she felt “right at home because she has been accustomed to many of these traditions throughout her life”. Furthermore, she looks forward to attending this event next year and hopes to be more involved in events similar to this during her time at San Bernardino Valley College.

The most notable thing that was done at this event was the Alter because so many people wanted to celebrate, remember their loved ones such as their family, friends and ancestors. Especially, because many people who are accustomed to participate in this celebration believe that on dia de los muertos their loved ones come back spiritually on that particular day. To many that is a way to not necessarily take all the pain from that loss but to at least be hopeful about the situation.
