To decide whether a student would allow ChatGPT to be a personal stylist for college, I utilized Irene Kim's approach in her VOGUE article from September 2, 2023, asking readers, "Would You Let ChatGPT Dress You For NYFW?" She incorporates an inquiry within her research, asking ChatGPT, "What do you think will be trending at New York Fashion Week this month?" Irene does this to obtain a selection of possibilities that resonate with today's trends.
Inspired by Kim, I asked the bot, "If you were my stylist, what would you want me to wear to college?" to understand how much ChatGPT comprehends. The original article is concerned with the trends of our time, while this inquiry involves the specific preference of an individual and where they live.
According to ChatGPT, roads to comfort lie within:
Lightweight or short tank top with breathable material
Joggers or leggings if they are one of athleticism
Layering to avoid displeasure with seasonal shifts
Slip-on or sandals, and a necessity, sunscreen, along with a hat or sunglasses
The site even displays a guide to a "smart casual" look: For sophistication, loafers or oxfords and a touch of professionalism, a blazer or fitted jacket, your choice.
The bot mentions the "practicality" of what students should wear for a college setting. It tries to take into consideration that colleges require students to do a lot of walking, sit for long amounts of time, while also considering the rules of the dress code or "cultural norms" of the campus.
It gives a user a lot to think about. However, ChatGPT does create a solid guide to come up with concepts of what to wear if one is completely lost and unsure.
