On Feb. 14 in celebration of Black History Month, the documentary showcase of “The Greatest Night in Pop” was put on in LA100. The event was a successful result of BFSA and Umoja-Tumaini. The purpose of the event was to showcase the talent and contributions of musicians Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones, and Michael Jackson to the making of and ultimate success of the song, “We Are The World.” The event also included a delicious lunch from the restaurant “I Love Chicken & Waffles.”
The documentary also showcased the cooperation of 47 musicians of the time when the song was made. Many of them came from different backgrounds and different racial ethnicities. Thus showing to today’s younger generation how cooperation amongst many people can have an everlasting positive effect on the world.
Those in attendance were just as diverse, with one attendee saying that she was raised in Mexico and how this song was played there at the time. Years later she still had a positive view of it. This event was a well-thought-out spark of insight from the organizers. Events like this will continue to have a positive effect on the community.
